A vital part of Burns and Roe's complete services has been start-up, logistics support, and maintenance and operations programs at plant and site facilities around the world. Such services have been performed at seawater and fresh water treatment plants, research and development laboratories, test complexes, and major military bases and installations.
Burns and Roe provides expert operations, maintenance, repair, and construction services throughout the world. We mobilize and manage competent work forces for projects and facilities, large or small, simple or complex, in urban or remote locations. We support government and commercial organizations in the operation and maintenance of total bases or facilities (or discrete functions), including utilities, desalination, logistics support, transportation (including seaports and airfields, as well as road and rail vehicles and networks), housing, food service, safety and security.
We define our success by a service credo comprised of four basic elements:
CUSTOMERS…long-term
solutions built on partnering and quality service.
INNOVATION…continuous
improvement, adapting new ideas and technologies to deliver
more efficient performance.
PEOPLE…support
service professionals who are motivated and empowered to
maximize efficiency, quality, and customer service.
TEAMWORK…working
with our customers, with full and open communications, to
develop "win/win" solutions to every challenge.
Origins
In 1964, the water supply was cut off to the U.S. Naval
Base, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and its 10,000 Naval and civilian
personnel. Burns and Roe responded to the emergency successfully
by providing the engineering, installation, operation, and
maintenance services for a desalination plant capable of
producing fresh water at the rate of one million gallons
per day (GPD) within five months. This project marked the
beginning of Burns and Roe's involvement in the Operations
and Maintenance (O&M) business, and we have been actively
supporting Guantanamo Bay (and numerous other sites) ever
since.
Base Operating
Services
Burns and Roe has amassed an impressive number of facility
O&M past and current projects, including several significant
Base Operating Services (BOS) contracts covering all aspects
of operations at large installations. Some recent major
efforts include Diego Garcia, Johnston Atoll, and Guantanamo
Bay for the U.S. Navy. We also provided support to the U.S.
Army at the 26th and 104th Area Support Group bases at Darmstadt,
Giessen, and Hanau, Germany, and at the Stewart Army
Sub-Post in New York.
We are actively pursuing customers considering "outsourcing"
part or all of their facility O&M requirements for the
first time. Burns and Roe has accomplished the transition
of work from customer "in-house" staff
to contractor employees several times, most recently on
our German multi-base contract. We understand the potential
problems and pitfalls and have excellent corporate support
resources with which to overcome these transitional challenges.
We invite queries on how Burns and Roe can custom design
an O&M program to suit your company's particular needs.
