Burns
and Roe's Federal Services Division is characterized by
teamwork and seamless project coordination to ensure complete
customer satisfaction. We practice open communication among
our customers, project personnel, suppliers, and our home
and satellite offices, which are all connected to the diverse
areas of expertise in the Federal Services
Division.
Engineering,
Procurement, and Construction Services
Since its inception in 1932, Burns and Roe has been noted
for its “First-of-a-Kind” engineering, procurement,
and construction (EPC) services. That tradition, going back
to the early days of the nuclear industry, continues today
in the Federal Services Division. Our accomplishments include
contributions to virtually every milestone event, from engineering
the first commercial nuclear power plant, to managing the decontamination
and decommissioning of the first large-scale commercial
nuclear reactor in the United States.
Burns and Roe provides EPC support services at several
U.S. Department of Energy sites throughout the United States.
The Company has executed several large contracts to
alleviate the Department of Energy's nuclear waste stockpile.
These contracts are for the conversion of depleted uranium
hexafluoride to disposable and commercial products and for
the disposition of uranium 233 as products to be used as
medical isotopes. The company has also participated in the DOE's Nuclear Materials Safety and Security Upgrade Program.

Project Management Reviews
We provide consulting support to numerous federal clients.
Our Company is well recognized for its expertise in conducting
independent cost estimating and external independent reviews
of large-scale, complex engineering, design, and construction
projects/programs. We have assisted international customers
throughout the former Soviet Union, Asia, and the United
Kingdom by reviewing energy technology, nuclear safety,
environmental restoration, and civilian radioactive waste
management programs.
New
Technology Development
Burns and Roe has continually been involved in the development
of new technologies. In addition to our heritage of "First-of-a-Kind"
nuclear projects, we are also involved in pursuing and developing
innovative treatment and disposal methods for various levels
of radiologically contaminated waste. Our projects cover
the entire range of services from "proof-of-principle" through demonstration, and ultimately, to commercialization.
Beyond conventional engineering, design, and build services,
Burns and Roe also provides computer modeling of individual
equipment, processes, and cycles to optimize design and development
requirements. We further determine lowest cost energy scenarios,
support stakeholder participation, and assimilate new requirements
and/or changes to ensure complete technology transfer. Our
personnel regularly participate in workshops, conferences,
and technical presentations to keep abreast of and share
their knowledge of new developments.
Decommissioning
and Dismantling Services
Burns and Roe provides decommissioning services for nuclear
power plants and non-reactor facilities for commercial and
government clients. Our services include engineering studies,
cost estimates, decommissioning plans, and on-site implementation.
Our personnel are specialists in cost engineering, planning,
scheduling, nuclear engineering, radioactive waste management,
and project and construction management. Most of them have
gained their knowledge from actual project experience. Our
decommissioning teams are comprised of experienced nuclear
industry personnel. These teams have participated in designing
facilities, performing theoretical decommissioning studies,
and accomplishing decommissioning projects using innovative
technologies and methodologies.
